The world of video games never ceases to have its ups and downs. Between successes that fill gamers' hearts with joy and failures that leave a bitter taste, it's often difficult to make the right decisions. And following the latter point, Ubisoft apparently decided not to follow up on this big title.
Star Wars Outlaws was eagerly awaited by fans of the saga. However, when it was released in August 2024, the public did not respond, and Ubisoft considers the game a commercial failure. Faced with this situation, the studio apparently decided not to follow up on the title.
At least, that's what Tom Henderson, founder of Insider Gaming, says in his latest podcast, published on YouTube during an interlude dedicated to Ubisoft's projects: "They also recently cancelled Star Wars Outlaws 2, which was well and truly planned and in the works. As far as I know, it hasn't gone into production. It wasn't set in stone."
However, Henderson gave no further details about this cancellation on the part of the Ubisoft studio. But if the company has decided not to go ahead with Star Wars Outlaws, we can imagine that the game's sales results are lower than officially announced. And that's a pity, because the Star Wars saga has a very vast universe in which many stories are possible, while bringing something new to players.
But that's not all, because Ubisoft seems to be struggling to accept responsibility for this failure. Indeed, Yves Guillemot, co-founder of Ubisoft, prefers to say that the Star Wars license has been in a difficult period for some time.
As a result, it would appear that a sequel to Star Wars Outlaws is not on the cards for the next few years. And this could perhaps save Ubisoft from another failure after the success of Assassin's Creed Shadows, which recently exceeded 5 million players and helped the company turn its fortunes around.
