Finnish company, Suunto, has announced the Suunto Run as its newest smartwatch. If its name didn't already give it away, the Suunto Run is targeted at runners. Suunto says the watch was developed for all runners regardless of their performance level. It belongs to the performance series which also includes the Suunto Race and the Suunto Race S.
Like the other two watches in Suunto's performance series, the Suunto Run has a round dial with a 1.32'' AMOLED display that has a 466 × 466 resolution. The display is housed inside a 46mm stainless steel case and protected by Gorilla Glass. The case also houses two physical buttons and a digital crown. The Suunto Run is a lightweight smartwatch as it weighs just 36 grams, and is also quite slim with a thickness of 11.5mm.
The Suunto Run is packed with several features and tools to help users become better at running. Users can plan runs and even receive training guidance with support for voice feedback without the need for a phone. It also has a marathon mode, ghost runner mode, track running mode, and a metronome. The Suunto Run will also remind users to replenish water and energy and also provide recovery stats. They will also be able to track their progress over a long period of time.
While the watch is aimed at runners, it has other sports modes including cycling, skiing, hiking, climbing, swimming, skipping, rowing, boxing, yoga, and pilates. According to Suunto, there are a total of 34 sports modes. The smartwatch also integrates with popular running apps such as Strava, Adidas Running, and Mapmyrun. The Suunto Run doesn't support offline maps nor does it support the Suunto Plus ecosystem. However, it has dual frequency GPS and a compass.
The Suunto Run has a heart rate sensor, respiratory monitor, and sleep tracking. There's also a breathing app that helps manage stress and regulate breathing. The watch also has a built-in storage so users can save their playlists, audio books, or podcasts to listen to while exercising without the need for a connected phone. All they need is to connect a pair of Suunto's own Bluetooth headphones or a third-party brand.
The Suunto Run has a battery life of 20 hours with GPS turned on but will last up to 12 days when used just as a smartwatch. It comes with a new charger, so it won't work with the charger of other Suunto watches. The watch can also be connected to a Suunto HR belt and 3rd party belts.
With a price tag of €249, the Suunto Run is cheaper than the Suunto Race (curr. available on Amazon for $379). It is available in four colors — Frost Gray, All Black, Lime, and Coral Orange — all of which have a 22mm textile strap.
