The Sonos Roam 2 is now official, and it doesn't come with a price bump. That means you can get the new portable wireless speaker at the same $179 tag as the predecessor. Now, while it's a second-generation product, it doesn't bring a major overhaul. Instead, it's more of a minor refresh, integrating some of the features the first-generation users have been asking for.
That includes the ability to use the Roam 2 out of the box, just like most of the other portable Bluetooth speakers. For the first-generation unit, you would need to go through a setup process through the Sonos App before you can actually listen to anything on it. This is a welcoming change and should make it easier to get listening.
The second notable upgrade on the new Sonos Roam 2 is redesigned controls. It brings a dedicated Bluetooth button that will enable you to get the wireless speaker into pairing mode. On the first-gen speaker, you would need to hold the multi-functional power button for a certain amount of time to enter into pairing.
Other than that, the Roam 2 is pretty much the same portable speaker as the original. That includes 10 hours of battery life, the same well-regarded audio quality, TruePlay, and a rugged build with an IP67 rating. There's also support for Sound Swap, allowing you to quickly switch playback from one Sonos speaker to another. It is available in black, green, orange, and white.
