In a few days, Huawei will unveild its second tri-foldable device, the Mate XTs, with initial videos in a stylish purple and white already available as teasers. Compared to the Mate XT, the Chinese company is sticking to the proven concept of a display that folds inwards and outwards, i.e., a Z-pattern.
This leaves part of the sensitive AMOLED panel unprotected when folded, which potentially compromises durability in everyday use and so requires a protective case. Samsung is doing things differently with its first tri-foldable device, which, according to previous information, will consist of two inward-folding parts. This has the disadvantage that an additional cover display increases the thickness of the case, but the flex panel inside is better protected.
How the first dual-folding Galaxy tablet would fold was unclear until now. Based on the display prototypes shown at trade fairs so far (see image above), many observers generally assumed that both sides would fold over each other, i.e., first from the left and then from the right inward, or vice versa. However, a new animation from Samsung discovered in the One UI 8 code now suggests a different folding method.
Left-to-right folding
The video above shows the position of the wireless charging coil, which is hidden in the right third of the 10-inch tablet when viewed from the front. The end of the video also reveals that Samsung is apparently planning a strict left-to-right folding pattern. First, the left third of the display is folded onto the middle section, then these two parts are folded onto the right third of the display. Whether this will also be the case with the final "Galaxy G Fold" remains to be seen, but it seems likely.
More leaked animations
Leaker @TechHighest also shared the two videos below on X, which appear to confirm that contactless NFC payments and reverse wireless charging will also be possible on the Samsung TriFold. The reverse wireless charging module is on the right-hand side of the case when viewed from the front, opposite the cameras on the back. The cover display with punch-hole camera is integrated right in the middle of the double-foldable pocket tablet, which, according to recent reports, will be unveiled at the end of September.
