A few weeks have passed since various influencers demonstrated that neither the Magic V5 nor the Find N5 are necessarily as thin as Honor and Oppo make out. Unsurprisingly, Honor refuted these claims in their entirety.
In an official response, the company stated the likes of Ice Universe failed to account for the inner and outer screen protectors that ship with the Magic V5 in their calculations. It is worth noting that foldable manufacturers, including Honor, stress that their inner screen protectors should not be removed.
Nonetheless, more evidence has emerged showing that the Magic V5 is significantly thicker than the 8.95 mm Ice Universe reported when including its pre-installed screen protectors. According to an investigation conducted by the Korean Consumer-Centered Enterprise Association (KCEA) and reported by Business Korea, the Magic V5 actually comes in at 9.34 mm even in its thinnest Ivory White variant.
Likewise, the X Fold5 and Mate X6 are over 0.5 mm thicker than advertised. On top of that, the Mix Fold 4 has been measured at just 0.14 mm thicker than Xiaomi's official measurement of 9.47 mm. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Fold7 (curr. $1,999.99 on Amazon) undercuts Samsung's official measurements again, but to 8.82 mm this time. As Android Authority notes, it is worth stressing that Samsung is a KCEA member. However, there is no suggestion that Samsung has had any influence over the KCEA's findings. We will update this article if any of the concerned companies provide an official statement on the matter.
