Samsung has announced a partnership with Natural Cycles, which will bring a temperature-based cycle tracking feature to the Galaxy Watch5. The tool will be available via an upcoming update across North America, Europe and Asia. The feature uses the built-in infrared temperature sensors in the Samsung wearable.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch5 Series will shortly have a new menstrual cycle tracking feature thanks to a partnership with Natural Cycles. The tool will allow temperature-based monitoring of your menstrual cycle with an adapted version of the Natural Cycle’s algorithm specifically for the Samsung smartwatch.

The Galaxy Watch5 has a built-in infrared temperature sensor, allowing you to check your skin temperature. The technology can withstand changes in temperature in the environment and gentle movement. The Cycle Tracking feature was recently approved by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) in the Republic of Korea and has also been registered with the FDA, and meets CE Marking requirements. This is the first smartwatch-based integration of its kind for Natural Cycles. However, the company is building many partnerships with other tech brands; for example, Oura announced last year a tracking feature and integration with the Natural Cycles app for its smart ring.

The new tool will be available in 32 countries across North America, Europe and Asia, including the US, the UK, the Netherlands, Sweden, France and Italy. Samsung has said that the update, including the Cycle Tracking feature, will be downloadable in Q2 (April to June) for the Galaxy Watch5 and Galaxy Watch5 Pro. It is worth noting that the new tool is not intended to be used as a form of contraception.
