Today is March 10, 2025 - which can also be called MAR.10 and, thus, is also known as Mario Day. In keeping with that theme, iFixit has decided to tear the only alarm clock that can put one of Nintendo's star plumbers on its screen.
The Sound Clock: Alarmo can be set to wake the user up with a Mario game-inspired sequence (although others based on titles such as those of the Legend of Zelda series can go in their place) and challenge them to get out of bed before a character such as Bowser shows up on its circular display.
The Alarmo has a 24GHz mmWave radar to work completely wirelessly and in response to gestures, which, as it seems, can be accessed with relative ease - so long as you have tools for the external tri-wing screws Nintendo loves so well.
The alarm clock has a distinctly retro amount of space between its various components on the inside - although that might make it all the easier to remove and replace parts such as its 2.4-inch LCD screen and the Hall sensor found in its large top-mounted dial.
Most importantly, the Alarmo's CMOS battery (which powers its clock memory, settings storage and nothing else) is removable, and is clearly marked as a CR2032 on its holder in case it needs to be replaced.
All in all, the Sound Clock: Alarmo does indeed seem to be "Princess Peach-worthy" in terms of keeping it going in the long term.
In the meantime, silicone case and screen protector sets for Nintendo's $99 accessory are readily available on Amazon for a decent price.
