MSI: MSI GT660 gaming notebook to hit the US soon
The massive 16-inch laptop has a Core i7 CPU and GeForce GTX 285M graphics card, along with up to 12GB of DDR3 memory and 1TB of HDD
The sleek GT660 made its debut during the CeBIT this year but took almost half a year to finally start shipping to the US markets. The 16-inch monster hails the Dynaudio sound system and the included sub-woofers as its USP – but deep inside the GT660 also has the muscles to die for.
Powered by the powerful Intel Core i7-740QM CPU with a clock speed of 1.73 GHz and the Nvidia's GeForce GTX 285M with 1GB DDR3 VRAM – this system sure does not compromise on performance. Compared to the 720QM released earlier, this processor gives a significantly higher performance including a faster clock rate which can be taken up to 2.93GHz with the Turbo mode, but at the same time has a slightly less 6MB of L3 cache. It has a faster memory processing as well due to the DR3 support. Complementing it is the GTX 285M offer a much better switch time using hybrid power, and you should not face any problem blazing away demanding games like Call of Duty MW2, Battlefield, Fear 2, Risen or NFS Shift etc.
There is a significant increase in the amount of memory and storage for gaming purposes – you get as much as 12GB of pure DDR3 delight and a huge 1TB of HDD! MSI also throws in a Blu-ray drive, but if you think this is getting out of your budget, stick to the basic model with 512MB HDD and a dual-layer DVD burner.
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit comes pre-loaded with all the models. MSI’s in-house TDE technology helps accelerating the CPU and GPU performance. There is a 9-cell battery included to give the system a manageable mobility. But take care when you are carrying this around – it is a massive 7.7 pounds (3.5kg) in weight and measures 15 x 10.2 x 1.8 inches.
You can get one of these starting at $1499.99 on Amazon for the model with 6GB RAM and 500GB HDD.
