New Motorola Edge smartphone revealed with Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset as OnePlus Nord CE 4 competitor
A forthcoming Motorola smartphone has appeared on Geekbench shortly before its official release. To recap, Motorola has already announced the Moto X50 Ultra in China, as well as the Edge 50 Pro in India. Additionally, Motorola teased an Edge smartphone powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3, the same chipset that will underpin the OnePlus Nord CE 4.
According to Geekbench, someone has benchmarked the Edge 50 Pro, which was assumed to be the global counterpart to the Moto X50 Ultra. Thus, the Edge 50 Pro should contain the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, a chipset that Qualcomm unveiled earlier this week. For context, the Edge 40 Pro relies upon the older Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, as does the Moto X40 and Edge Plus 2023 (curr. $699.99 on Amazon).
However, Geekbench implies that the alleged Edge 50 Pro features the lesser Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 instead. While the benchmarking platform does not list the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 by name, the 1+3+4 CPU core arrangement clocked at 2.6 GHz, 2.4 GHz and 1.8 GHz, respectively, match the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 and not the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. With that being said, we would not recommend taking a single Geekbench listing as evidence of the Edge 50 Pro's chipset, which also shows 12 GB of RAM. Motorola is expected to announce at least one new Edge smartphone on April 3, although the Edge 50 Fusion is also rumoured to arrive at some point this year too.
