Overlooked in the reveal of the ROG Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X prices, Microsoft has also announced accessories for the gaming handheld. The company is marketing several storage solutions, as well as an Xbox and Asus-branded carrying case. Gamers can expect more ROG Xbox Ally accessories to debut before its October 16th release date.
Bolstering storage on the ROG Xbox Ally handhelds
Many of the games users will be running on the new Windows 11 gaming handhelds aren’t designed for mobile form factors. To gain more storage capacity, buyers can add a microSD card to the devices. The Sandisk microSD card for ROG Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X is officially licensed for the handhelds and available in capacities of 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB. Players can expect maximum read speeds of 200MB/s to avoid performance hiccups.
Another storage option requires a bit more effort to take advantage of. Buyers who are confident enough to tinker with handhelds can elect to replace their drives. The PCIe Gen4 Seagate FireCuda 530R slots into both the ROG Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X and supports Microsoft DirectStorage. While the 1TB option won’t provide much of an upgrade for the Ally X, it’s also sold in 2TB and 4TB variations.
Cases and adapters for the new Xbox gaming handhelds
Sadly, not even the $999.99 ROG Xbox Ally X ships with a carrying case. The in-stock $69.99 ROG Xbox Ally carrying case already surfaced during the August Gamescom. With a hard plastic exterior, its water-repellent design features a modular accessory pouch. It accommodates the 65-watt charging adapter and multiple microSD cards.
For $99.99, the ROG 100 Watt Charging Dock for ROG Xbox Ally will also be a popular way to expand USB connectivity and game on larger displays. Since the devices share many similarities with the ROG Ally gaming handhelds, other accessories like controllers are likely compatible.
