Lenovo Legion 5 17 - Quiet gaming laptop with an RTX 3060 GPU and AMD Ryzen CPU

Teaser
We reviewed the Lenovo Legion 5 17, the latest gaming laptop from Lenovo, and were satisfied with the performance and noise levels. The AMD Ryzen 5 5600H and Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 mobile GPU have a lot of potential without breaking the bank.

We took a closer look at the Lenovo Legion 5 17, configured with an AMD Ryzen 5 5600H and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 mobile GPU. The 17-inch laptop's greatest features include its good display. The Full HD panel supports a refresh rate of 144 Hz, which cements it as a true gaming laptop. Thanks to the display, which comes precalibrated ex-factory, the deltaE-2000 values are already excellent to begin with, making the device more than capable of handling video or photo editing workloads.

The performance of the AMD Ryzen 5 5600H is good, that much is clear. Nonetheless, the 6 cores cannot keep up with an octa-core processor. Speaking of which: Those who are in need of an octa-core CPU may configure the Lenovo Legion 5 17 with the AMD Ryzen 7 5800H CPU option. However, even the performance of the hexa-core CPU is sufficient for now, since the Lenovo Legion 5 17 runs all of the latest games without any issues. Of course, the dedicated graphics card plays a part in this as well. With a TGP of 130 watts, the installed Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 mobile GPU has access to its maximum power budget, which allows for peak performance. Thanks to the well-designed cooling solution, the temperatures are not a problem, either, and users should not expect any throttling issues. The system even manages to be extraordinarily quiet while gaming, which is rare for gaming laptops.

The installed SSD is a small drawback due to its relatively low capacity of only 512 GB. Considering modern games can quickly take up 100 GB or more, this is definitely worth noting. When ordering directly from Lenovo's online shop, the system can be confiigured according to your preferences including larger SSD options. Thanks to the laptop's secondary SSD slot, expanding the storage later is also possible.
