GTA V giveaway has taken Epic Games Store's servers hostage
Several gamers will affirm that Grand Theft Auto games have been the proverbial gateway drug that led them to the world of gaming. It is one of the best-selling franchises ever made, and GTA V continues to remain on the top of the charts even today.
Earlier today, Epic just announced (unofficially) that it would be giving away the game for free on its storefront. To nobody's surprise, the Epic Games Store is practically inaccessible due to the sheer number of people lining up for their free copy of GTA V. While a few lucky users have managed to get their hands on a copy, not everyone is as fortunate.
Trying to access the store page yields some...unique results. Most of the time, one is greeted with 'An unexpected error has occurred' prompt. Clicking on the 'Back to Home' button brings you back at the same prompt but in a different language. Take a gander at the attached images to get a rough idea about what one has to go through.
You'll have to cycle through half a dozen languages before being redirected to the store page, which is also in another language. It may take you a couple of attempts before you get through to the game listing, and there's a good chance you'll get a 404 error there.
Epic also says that you need to have 2FA enabled on your account to redeem GTA V. If you're unable to grab your copy now, rest easy. The game will be free till May 24th, so you have a lot of time to add it to your library.
