The long-rumored Casio G-Shock GMW-BZ5000 series - the brand’s next-generation all-metal "square" - has had its Japanese pricing leaked just ahead of launch. According to a new leak from Great G-Shock World, the entry-level GMW-BZ5000D-1 (silver model) will debut at ¥93,500 (~$632), while the black (GMW-BZ5000GD-1) and gold (GMW-BZ5000GD-9) variants are set at ¥102,300 (~$692) each.
What justifies the new price tag?
- The GMW-BZ5000D is not a simple color update but actually a fundamental upgrade. It brings a new "triple-layer" case architecture: the bezel, mid-frame, and main case are now separated and assembled with visible screws, as confirmed by recently leaked images and hands-on coverage.
- Both gold and black variants feature IP finishes, with physical gold-toned accents on hardware. This is way more complex as compared to the relatively uniform finish of past models.
- Casio is also introducing a Memory In Pixel (MIP) LCD to the square case full-metal G-Shock for the first time. This improves display clarity and information density over prior standard LCDs in this lineup.
Early retail feedback from Japanese watch dealers also shows a lot of interest before launch. Also, the models are reportedly "Partner Shop" exclusives, which means that "huge" early discounts will be unlikely.
It is clear that the change in structure, LCD, and finishing are major reasons why the GMW-BZ5000 already feels like it has flagship status among G-Shock’s metal squares. The official launch is still pending, but heavy leak activity means a release should be imminent. Prospective buyers should expect heavy demand and limited early availability, especially for the special finish variants.
