Awesome Xiaomi MIX 5 specs rumors lead with battery of big numbers as new concept renders surface

A whole slew of wild Xiaomi MIX 5 rumors has turned up in a couple of reports in Chinese media alongside a handful of concept renders of the likely 2022 flagship. It’s already reported that there may be both a Xiaomi MIX 5 and MIX 5 Pro in the works, and this list of high-end specs could pertain to either or both models. Of course, it’s likely a good amount of the information came from whispers on Weibo, so a pinch of salt is required here.

According to the reports, the Xiaomi MIX 5 could wow buyers with this assortment of goodies:

• Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC working in tandem with a Xiaomi Surge S3 chip and 20 temperature sensors to keep an eye on heat dissipation
• 6.89-inch 2K straight-edged AMOLED with 120 Hz refresh rate and 480 Hz touch sampling rate
• No visible selfie camera as under-display camera technology is used for the screen
• Main camera setup: 100 MP (mechanical telephoto) + 40 MP (ultra-wide) + 13 MP (telephoto) + 48 MP (wide) + ToF sensor. A separate report has suggested 108 MP (main) + 50 MP (wide) + 50 MP (ultra-wide) + 50 MP (portrait) + 8 MP (telephoto)
• Shooting ability of 200x digital zoom and 15x optical zoom with a special “image focus mode” available that allows the SoC to close down all non-essential background processes so all performance reserves are given over to the camera
• No-nonsense charging: 200 W wired or 50 W wireless. Potential for 0% to 100% power level in 10 minutes – conflicting reports of either a 5,000-mAh battery or 6,000-mAh variant

It’s an astonishing wish list for the Xiaomi MIX 5 and potential MIX 5 Pro, with some of the supposed specs seeming quite likely considering smartphone spec progress and fierce market competition. In addition, two sets of concept renders for the MIX 5 have appeared showing the smartphone in strikingly different designs. One set has the device with an under-screen camera and a large circular camera housing on the rear with the mechanical zoom lens on show. The other set has two punch-holes at the front and a more pedestrian arrangement for the cameras on the rear (see below).

As for potential price tags for the MIX 5, one of the reports has suggested around 5,000 yuan (US$787) could be hoped for while the other report states that 6,299 yuan (US$991) for an 8 GB + 256 GB model is more possible. Considering the alleged hardware, the latter price seems more realistic, or it could just be the difference between a base model and Pro version. The Xiaomi MIX 5 and MIX 5 Pro have been tipped for launch in March 2022.
