The anyon_e is a new open-source laptop with a high-resolution AMOLED display that should be suitable for casual gaming. The notes also sports an aluminum chassis and is equipped with a 60Wh battery.

Open source is a term that is typically associated with software, which is often developed by dedicated communities who work on a publicly accessible source code. However, there are also hardware projects that are looking to follow the open-source philosophy. The anyon_e is one such project, and it’s quite impressive. More specifically, the anyon_e is an open-source laptop that is virtually indistinguishable from a commercially available product at first glance. It also appears to be entirely suitable for everyday use.

The metal chassis is arguably one aspect that most users would appreciate during regular usage. It's made of aluminum, as the creator used a CNC machine to fabricate the case. The maker, whose name is Bryan, found an elegant way to overcome a major challenge — the hinge comes from Framework. A 3D model for this component is available, which made designing the chassis a little bit easier.

The processor is a Rockchip RK3588, which is a familiar chipset used for certain single-board computers. This chip has four Cortex A76 and four Cortex A55 cores, which should provide sufficient performance to render casual games like Minecraft at high resolutions. The open-source laptop also uses a FriendlyElec RK3588 SoM, which is mounted on a corresponding motherboard. It offers two USB 3.1 Type-C, one USB 2.0 Type-A port as well as a microSD card slot. The notebook further supports M.2 2242 NVMe SSDs, and with some modifications to the chassis, even full-sized SSDs could be accommodated.

Moreover, the DIY laptop is powered by a 60Wh battery that can be recharged via USB-C with up to 100 watts. Meanwhile, the 13.3-inch AMOLED display has a high 4K resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels and reaches up to 400 nits in terms of brightness. Last but not least, the notebook runs on an Ubuntu distribution.
