For its fall event this year, Amazon has now announced not one, but three new Kindle Scribe models, and they bring very significant changes to Amazon's largest Kindle.
The new models include the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft which you can read about here. However, it is actually the Kindle Scribe (3rd generation) and its sibling, the Kindle Scribe without Front Light that are the true successors to the 2022 and 2024 Kindle Scribes.
The new Kindle Scribe sports a brand new design — gone is the extra thick side that makes the device easy to hold without accidental touches to the screen. Now, the new Scribe has uniform bezels on all four sides, just like a regular tablet. It is also taller, slimmer, and lighter than the previous generation, despite having a larger display.
Unlike the first generation, which has a 10.2-inch display, the Kindle Scribe (3rd Generation) and its sibling have an 11-inch display with a 300 ppi. However, while the standard one has built-in light, the Kindle Scribe without Front Light lacks one, a decision which seems to be quite unusual in this day and age.
Amazon says this new glare-free display mirrors a sheet of paper both in size and in the writing experience. The model with the front-light also has an improved lighting system and a new texture-molded glass that improves the friction when writing with the redesigned premium pen. In addition, Amazon says it has been able to shrink the parallax to almost nothing, for a better writing experience.
The 2025 Kindle Scribe models have a new quad-core processor and more memory, so users should notice they are faster than the previous generation. The Kindle Scribe (3rd Generation) is available in 32GB and 64GB storage options, while the version without a front light comes with 16GB of storage — another questionable decision in 2025.
There are new AI-based software features too, such as AI powered search, AI-assisted reading tools, and the ability to send notes and documents to Alexa+. Users can also access their documents from Google Drive and Microsoft One Drive, share notebooks with OneNote.
Amazon has once again skipped on Wi-Fi 6, waterproofing, and wireless charging for the 2025 Kindle Scribe. The spec sheet says the battery life is 12 weeks for the version with a front light and 16 weeks for the model without front light. This estimate is based on 30 minutes of reading per day and with Wi-Fi off. The new Kindle Scribes will charge from empty to full in 2.5 hours with a 20W adapter. While a charger isn't included in the box, buyers get a Premium Pen, replaceable tips, and a charging cable.
The Kindle Scribe (3rd Generation) comes in Graphite and is priced at $499 for the 32GB version and $549 for the 64GB version. It will be available later this year. The Kindle Scribe without Front Light also comes in Graphite but is slightly cheaper at $429. However, it won't be available until early next year.
If these prices are too high, Amazon still has last year's refresh available for purchase, and you can get the 64GB version for $339.99 instead of the $449.99 it cost at launch.
