Mate 20 X 5G coming to Europe next month

Huawei may have already revealed that it has a 5G version of its upcoming Mate X foldable smartphone, but the first 5G device from the company to hit the market will be its just announced Mate 20X 5G. The device is an updated version of the Chinese company’s Mate 20 X from August but with some tweaks including the addition of its own Balong 5000 5G chipset. However, it is not all good news.

Despite featuring the still beefy Kirin 980 SoC mated too 6 GB of RAM, the battery has actually had a downgrade from the massive 5,000mAh battery in the 4G variant to a less impressive 4,200mAh. This is concerning as a the separate 5G chipset will draw more power while the device retails its gargantuan 7.2-inch OLED display. Yet, despite the smaller battery size, the company has also been forced to drop the headphone jack to make way for the new silicon.

On the plus side, it retains its Mali-G76MP10 GPU which will still give it the vaunted gaming chops that the device is known for, but people after the 5G speeds are probably going to more interested in downloading large files quickly. With the smaller battery capacity, it would be better suited to business rather than play. It will be available in the UK priced next month priced at £999 which will also bring you 128 GB of expandable storage using Huawei’s custom NM cards.
