Italian outlet Aggiornamenti Lumia claims that Apple will be releasing an as-yet-unspecified new app for the Windows 10 platform. This rumor seems to be in consonance with speculation last year that Apple was working on a “next-gen” media app for Windows. If the app is built from the ground up for UWP, it might actually make its way over to Xbox, as opposed to the current Microsoft Store version of iTunes.

According to a report by Italian outlet Aggiornamente Lumia, Apple is reportedly working on a new app for Windows 10. While there is no clarity as to what the app will do, reports from last year indicate that it might just be a next-generation overhaul of Apple iTunes on Windows 10 that could potentially run on Xbox Series X.

Technically, Apple already supports both a classic Windows iTunes App and a UWP variant on the Microsoft Store. However, the Microsoft Store variant (which new users are pointed towards) is little more than a port of the regular desktop app. This meant that a port for Xbox users was never on the cards.

However, thanks to nature of UWP, apps built around the platform work on both Windows and Xbox. This means that a real UWP version of iTunes, or even an all-around media centre app could conceivably run, not just on Windows 10, but on Xbox Series X too. If this is the case, though, it remains to be seen how this functionality may or may not impinge on Apple TV
