iPhone SE 4 leaks point to a bigger display, Face ID, and USB-C
Leaks dropped some interesting tidbits about Apple’s upcoming iPhone SE 4, hinting at some noticeable design tweaks and a possible size jump for this budget-friendly series.
Word on the street (or from Alibaba, to be exact) is that the iPhone SE 4 is going for a design style similar to the iPhone 14. A 3D-printed mockup shows off a 6.1-inch screen with thin bezels just about 2mm from the body. We’re looking at 146.7mm tall, 71.5mm wide, and 7.8mm thick for size.
One big shift is that the new iPhone SE 4 will ditch the classic Touch ID and hop on the notched-display bandwagon, which likely means Face ID is coming to this model. This design move brings the iPhone SE 4 more in line with the rest of Apple’s flagship phones.
The back of the phone features just one camera, moving away from the dual-lens setup on the iPhone 14. The camera looks a little smaller in diameter compared to the iPhone 14’s primary lens, and the layout around the flash is also slightly switched up.
Down at the bottom, the mockup hints at a similar speaker and mic setup to the iPhone 14, with five holes on the right and three on the left. But here’s the kicker—it looks like Apple is finally giving in to the USB-C trend and saying goodbye to the Lightning port.
In a bit of a curveball, the leaks mention that the iPhone SE 4 could have two size options. The primary model is supposedly 6.1 inches, but Apple has been toying with a 6.7-inch version about the same size as the iPhone 14 Plus. However, there has yet to be a confirmation on whether both versions will make it to shelves since the iPhone SE line usually sticks with just one size.
There are a few minor tweaks to the button placement, too. The ring/mute switch seems a bit smaller and sits on top of the volume button. The volume and side buttons are in the same spots as the 14, meaning some cases might fit—though the camera cutout of the 14 could be too big.
The iPhone SE 4 is rumored to have an OLED display, stepping things up from the LCD screens that the earlier iPhone SE models were rocking. Of course, since these are just leaks and rumors, it’s wise to take everything with a pinch of salt. Apple’s final product could end up looking different.
