Upcoming iPhone SE 4 rumored to feature OLED screen
The iPhone SE 4 may bring the end of one era and the dawn of another.
A new rumor from Nikkei Asia claims that the upcoming iPhone SE 4 will feature an OLED display. The iPhone SE line is the last smartphone in Apple's portfolio to use an LCD panel; if this rumor is true, then all of Apple's phones would have OLED screens.
Nikkei also claims that Apple is in talks with BOE Technology Group in China and LG's display business in South Korea to source the OLED panels for the new iPhone SE 4. This shift for Apple's smartphone lineup would also signal the end of deals with two Japanese display manufacturers, namely Japan Display (JDI) and Sharp.
Both of these companies have supplied LCD panels for the iPhone SE line (and past iPhones that used the screen tech). In fact, Nikkei states that both JDI and Sharp have seen a 90% reduction in LCD shipments to Apple between 2015 and 2023 (from 200 million to 20 million).
Keep in mind this is a rumor and should be taken as such. However, the iPhone SE 4 is widely speculated to bring major changes to Apple's budget option, and the iPhone line is due for a design change. That said, the iPhone SE 4 may make an appearance at Apple's event next week.
