Google Chrome 96 now available for all platforms

Yesterday, the Google Chrome team announced the release of version 96 across all platforms. However, it looks like it will take some time for Chrome 96.0.4664.45 (same version number on Windows, Linux, macOS, and Android) to hit the users of these platforms all over the world. On the other hand, the latest version available on iOS as of today is labeled 96.0.4664.36 and was released last week, on November 9.

More official blog posts regarding what's new in Chrome 96 are expected in the following days. Based on a Chrome 96 beta-related piece that was published last month, the list of changes includes mostly pieces of code without obvious visual changes, such as the following:

• HTTPS connects to websites when an HTTPS record is available from the DNS.
• Conditional focus and priority hints, two new Origin trials.
• Unique IDs for desktop PWAs.
• Enhanced content security policy that improves WebAssembly interoperability.
• PaymentRequest API deprecated basic card payment method, to be removed in Chrome 100.

With Chrome 100 already knocking, Google is running a trial to check the compatibility of the upcoming milestone release with various websites. Both site owners and users can do the test by enabling the flag chrome://flags/#force-major-version-to-100.
