A YouTuber has tested Cyberpunk 2077 on a MacBook Pro M1 Max running the macOS 26 Tahoe beta update, reporting consistent frame rates hovering around 60 FPS, made possible by MetalFX upscaling and frame interpolation. The new update also introduces a dedicated Games app, a redesigned game mode for improved resource allocation, and system-wide enhancements aimed at delivering better gaming performance than before.
The footage shared by the YouTube channel Blendlogic Tech shows Cyberpunk 2077 running via CrossOver. The game, known for being notoriously demanding on PC hardware, reportedly achieved 55–60 FPS with MetalFX Performance mode enabled. On Quality mode, frame rates dipped slightly to around 45 FPS, with improved visual fidelity. The test was conducted on an M1 Max MacBook Pro with 32-core GPU and 64 GB unified memory.
In case you're wondering how Nvidia-like GPU features appear to run on Apple Silicon, here's how the setup works in this particular test. Cyberpunk 2077 isn't running natively on macOS. Instead, it's executed through CrossOver, a compatibility layer that allows certain Windows games to run on Macs.
The game is rendered using Apple's Metal 4 framework, introduced with macOS 26 Tahoe, which brings in features like MetalFX Upscaling and a new built-in frame generation technique. While Apple no longer uses Nvidia or AMD GPUs, these new additions aim to offer similar benefits by tapping into the capabilities of Apple’s own integrated GPU and unified memory system.
The YouTuber also claimed that fan noise and thermals were well under control, which is usually a common concern when running intensive games on any laptop. Do note that this isn’t native-level performance just yet, as Cyberpunk 2077 is expected to arrive on the App Store later this year with official support for Apple Silicon.
