A new Switch 2 setup showcased by a YouTuber claims to unlock hours of extra playtime using just two accessories.

A new hands-on test by a YouTuber suggests that Nintendo Switch 2 users may be able to more than double their gaming time by pairing a modular grip case from Genki with a third-party MagSafe-compatible battery known as the IceMag. The claim comes from a recent video by tech YouTube channel ETA Prime, which showcases the setup in action.

The YouTuber demonstrated the upgrade in a detailed walkthrough, where they mentioned that while playing Cyberpunk 2077 on the handheld, the internal battery lasted just over two hours. According to the video, attaching Genki’s new grip case, featuring interchangeable grip sizes and a built-in MagSafe-compatible mount, along with a 10,000 mAh IceMag battery via a magnetic connection, supposedly resulted in up to 5 hours and 38 minutes of reported runtime.

According to the YouTuber, the modular grip case includes swappable palm rests (small, medium, large) and allows continued access to the Switch’s vents, ports, and built-in kickstand. Although the Nintendo Switch 2 does not support wireless charging, ETA Prime notes that the MagSafe-compatible grip remains functional when used with a USB-C passthrough connection to an external battery. As shown in the video, a short angled 90-degree USB-C cable is used to route power from the battery to the console for a cleaner setup.

Power consumption during use reportedly ranged from 16 to 20 W, varying with screen brightness and in-game activity, as per the creator. After topping up the Switch 2’s internal battery, the system reportedly continued to draw around 10 W during intensive gameplay sessions.

The IceMag features a transparent window and an internal cooling fan, making it visually distinct among power banks. Though designed for smartphones, its compatibility with USB-C charging supposedly makes it suitable for use with the Nintendo Switch 2 as well.

Genki is also offering its own external battery for the Nintendo Switch 2, known as the Energy Pack, which is currently available for pre-order and expected to ship by late June 2025.

The YouTube star notes that users looking for a lighter alternative can opt for adhesive MagSafe rings instead of the modular case, but they recommend the grip-enhancing shell for better comfort during longer gaming sessions. The creator, ETA Prime, shares additional insights in their video, which may be worth watching in full for those seeking a more detailed understanding of the setup.
