Yamaha has unveiled two premium over-ear headphones, the $2,499.95 open-back YH-4000 and the $1,699.95 closed-back YH-C3000. Both hand-assembled models are designed for the enjoyment of high-resolution music when paired with high-end audio equipment capable of uncompressed music playback.
The magnesium-frame YH-4000 has a frequency response range of 5 Hz to 70 kHz thanks to its planar magnetic Orthodynamic drivers, with air pressure regulated by PET mesh filters. The technology was first introduced in the 1970s and has been improved with the use of thin-film diaphragms that have a wave-like surface capable of nuanced music reproduction, according to Yamaha. This model comes with perforated earpads that combine artificial suede on the inner surface and PU leather around the outer edge.
The YH-C3000 has a frequency response range of 5 Hz to 55 kHz thanks to its Armodynamic drivers. The three-layer diaphragm incorporates Zylon, a high-strength polymer also used in body armor and Yamaha's flagship speakers, and is capable of smooth, natural sound reproduction, according to Yamaha. This model comes with silk protein leather earpads with memory foam and hand-crafted beech wood earcups.
The YH-4000 weighs 320 g (11.3 oz.) and the YH-C3000 weighs 330 g (11.6 oz.). Both use an unbalanced 3.5 mm audio cable and have a 34-ohm impedance. The two-part headband uses a stainless steel arm on top to provide strength and flexibility and a padded head pad below for comfort. The headband sliders are stepless to help owners achieve a perfect fit.
The YH-C3000 will be available later in September 2025, while the YH-4000 will be available in October 2025 from Yamaha. Readers can view their line of more affordable headphones on Amazon.
