Xiaomi zooms in: Mi 10 Youth Edition with 50x periscope camera and MIUI 12 landing on April 27
At first glance, the Mi 10 Youth Edition appears to be a re-branded Mi 10 Lite. This would make sense too, as Xiaomi is seemingly not bringing the latter to China, where it will be launching the Youth Edition on April 27. However, closer inspection reveals that the Mi 10 Lite and Mi 10 Youth Edition are different devices.
Firstly, Xiaomi advertises the latter as having a 50x AI camera, something of which the Mi 10 Lite is not capable. Additionally, one of the Youth Edition's camera lenses is square, denoting that it is a periscope sensor. By comparison, the Mi 10 Lite must make do with a 5 MP macro camera.
Xiaomi has teased that the periscope sensor will be capable of 5x optical zoom too, putting it in direct competition with Huawei's upcoming Nova 7 series. Another standout feature of the Youth Edition is that it will be the first smartphone released running MIUI 12.
It remains unclear whether Xiaomi will release the Youth Edition outside of China, though. Even if it chooses not to, then its unveiling at 14:00 on April 27 should offer a first proper look at Xiaomi's latest OS. While the company has not confirmed what SoC will be powering the Youth Edition, that it is a 5G smartphone all but confirms that a Snapdragon 765G will be onboard.
