Designed to enhance wireless network coverage in homes, the Xiaomi Wi-Fi Range Extender AX1500 has recently appeared on the company’s global website, signalling a possible international release.
As expected, Xiaomi’s product page doesn’t provide any details regarding pricing and availability, though it does contain full specifications alongside an overview of the device’s features and capabilities.
Like the Xiaomi Router AX1500, the Wi-Fi Range Extender AX1500 supports the modern Wi-Fi 6 standard (IEEE 802.11ax), which offers data rates of up to 1,500 Mbit/s over the usual 2.4 and 5 GHz frequency bands with a 2x2 antenna setup – though the 6 GHz band isn’t supported. Naturally, the device maintains compatibility with all previous Wi-Fi standards (IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac).
Signal transmission is handled by two antennas that extend upwards from the left and right side, resembling ears on the device. Beyond just expanding Wi-Fi coverage, the AX1500 can be integrated into a mesh network and also includes an access point mode. For security, the following encryption protocols are available: WPA-PSK, WPA2-PSK and WPA3-SAE.
The Xiaomi Wi-Fi Range Extender AX1500 measures 84 x 82 x 168 mm (3.3 x 3.2 x 6.6 in). A Gigabit Ethernet port is located on the bottom of the unit, allowing devices to establish a wired connection to a network. The front panel features two status LEDs and a button for initiating a connection to the home Wi-Fi network.
