Xiaomi has announced that its Mi 8 flagship has sold 6M units worldwide, with the budget Redmi 5A that was launched about ten months ago having sold 10 million units in India alone. The first achievement ensures that Mi 8's are temporarily cheaper in China due to a 200Y price slash.

Xiaomi grew massively in 2017, ending the year as the fourth-largest smartphone brand in the world. The company has continued that growth in fine fashion this year, with a number of phone models going on to sell in large numbers. The latest win in a long line of Xiaomi achievements over the past year is the Redmi 5A and Mi 8 devices hitting massive landmarks.

The Mi 8 devices went on sale on June 5, and sold a million units in its first 18 days on the market.  Four months later, the company has confirmed that it has sold 6 million units of the Mi 8. This sales landmark is being celebrated by a slash in prices of the device, with all variants getting a 200Y discount in China.

Another Xiaomi device to have hit a sales landmark is the company’s budget Redmi 5A. According to IDC's data, the OEM has sold 10 million units in India, less than a year after it was launched. The Redmi 5A is one of Xiaomi’s best-selling devices ever, and was the best-selling Android phone in the world, earlier in the year. As such, it isn’t particularly surprising to see it moving such units, although 10 million in only India is still a hugely impressive number by all perspectives.
