Xiaomi set to unveil two new devices in the Mi 8 series
Xiaomi launched its flagship Mi 8 lineup earlier in the year, with a trio of devices—the Mi 8, Mi 8 SE, and Mi 8 Explorer being unveiled. The company is set to add a number of devices to that exotic lineup soon, if reports are to be believed.
According to word on the grapevine, the company will release a Mi 8 Youth Edition soon. The device was teased on a physical poster in China a few days ago, and has now apparently been confirmed for launch. It’s said to sport a 6.2-inch FHD+ LCD display, a Snapdragon 710, a 12 MP + 5 MP dual rear camera setup, a 24 MP selfie camera, and a 3400 mAh battery. It’s also said to come with a CNY 1,999 price tag, equivalent to about US$295.
What makes the existence of this device a tad hard to explain is the fact that its positioned so similarly to the Mi 8 SE. The SE shares an identical specifications sheet, albeit with some differences including an AMOLED display, smaller selfie camera, and a smaller battery. The Mi 8 SE is also about US$15 cheaper at the moment.
The second device to be launched soon is the Mi 8 Screen Fingerprint, a flagship that appears to be identical to the Mi 8, albeit with an in-display fingerprint reader, just like on the Mi 8 Explorer Edition.
Speaking of the Mi 8 Explorer Edition, Xiaomi is said to be set to sell that device as the Mi 8 Pro outside China.
