Xiaomi has started rolling out MIUI 12.5, the latest version of its in-house OS. The rollout has started in China, as is typically the case when Xiaomi issues an OS upgrade. As it stands, Xiaomi has started upgrading the following devices:
- Mi 11 - V12.5.1.0.RKBCNXM
- Mi 10 Ultra - V12.5.1.0.RJJCNXM
- Mi 9 SE - V12.5.1.0.RFBCNXM
We should stress that Xiaomi does not install Google Mobile Services (GMS) on its Chinese MIUI ROM builds. Previously, it was simple to sideload the Google Play Store on these builds, but there is some confusion around if this remains the case. Hence, we would not recommend trying these builds on your device, unless they are already enrolled on MIUI's Chinese branch.
Xiaomi is due to commence its global MIUI 12.5 rollout from next month, albeit for five devices. Oddly, the Mi 9 SE is not one of the five devices in Xiaomi's first batch, which the company has reserved for the Mi 11 and the Mi 10 series. The Mi 9 SE is missing from Xiaomi's second batch, too.
We have included Xiaomi's current global MIUI 12.5 rollout below, which currently includes 18 devices. However, the appearance of MIUI 12.5 for the Mi 9 SE this early on suggests that Xiaomi will not stick closely to this list. Xiaomi did not do so with its MIUI 12 rollout either, for reference.
