Xiaomi SU7 lands: Tesla Model 3 rival with aggressive price tag

The price is fixed. Xiaomi is asking exactly 219,900 yuan for the base model of the new SU7. Converted, that is around $31.900. The manufacturer is thus undercutting its own pre-sale price by 10,000 yuan. The predecessor model was still 4,000 yuan cheaper at launch. However, its main rival costs significantly more. Tesla is currently asking 235,500 yuan for the Model 3 RWD in China. Xiaomi has secured a price advantage of 15,600 yuan. The Pro version of the SU7 is listed for 249,900 yuan. The top model Max costs 303,900 yuan.
The market reacts immediately to the aggressive challenge. Xiaomi boss Lei Jun reported exactly 15,000 firm orders after 34 minutes. The first generation collected significantly more buyers in the same time. The market environment in China has become extremely aggressive. Observers are talking about a veritable bloodbath. Xiaomi is countering with massive purchase incentives. Pre-order customers receive a free upgrade package. It includes zero-gravity seats, a sound system with 25 speakers, the front trunk and a separate display for the rear seat.

The debut specifications confirm the leaks of recent weeks. The standard model is based on a 752-volt architecture. The battery has a capacity of 73 kWh. According to the Chinese CLTC cycle, this is enough for 720 kilometres. It sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.28 seconds. The Pro version has a capacity of 96.3 kWh. It can travel 902 kilometres without stopping to charge. The Max model tops the range. It has all-wheel drive and a 101.7 kWh battery capacity, providing brutal acceleration. It reaches 100 km/h in just 3.08 seconds. The charging power adds up to 670 km of range in just 15 minutes.

The hardware for autonomous driving is now standard. Every vehicle leaves the factory with a LiDAR sensor and 4D radar. An Nvidia Thor chip delivers 700 TOPS of computing power. The new AI language model XLA takes over the software side. It links driving assistance and automated (AI) decision-making in real time. The body offers protection through high-strength steel with 2,200 MPa. Buyers can choose from two color lines. The Classic series comes in Obsidian Black and Pearl White. The Sport line supplements Brilliant Magenta with the completely new Blazing Red.
The production lines are already running at full speed. Xiaomi ended production of the first SU7 generation in February. By then, the company had built 381,000 vehicles. The conversion of the production lines caused deliveries to slump to 20,414 units in February. This backlog is expected to melt away quickly. Xiaomi plans to sell 550,000 vehicles in 2026. The new SU7 and the upcoming electric SUV YU7 must deliver this volume in the coming months.
