Chinese tech group Xiaomi is breaking with the usual sales cycles of the automotive industry. Instead of minor cosmetic changes, Xiaomi is delivering a profound technical overhaul for its highly anticipated SU7 electric car for the 2026 model year. The most important step is the standardization of the high-voltage architecture. Previously, entry-level models utilized 400-volt technology. The new SU7 MY2026 now utilizes at least a 752-volt platform in all variants, while the top-of-the-line SU7 Max (2026) even takes this to almost 900 volts (897 V).
Charging almost as fast as refueling
This change will ensure extremely short charging times for Xiaomi's SU7 electric sedan. According to Xiaomi, the top model can recharge enough energy for 670 km (416 mi) in 15 minutes. This will undoubtedly put pressure on established competitors such as the Tesla Model 3 or the VW ID.7.
Xiaomi is also stepping up its game in terms of range (CLTC), delivering impressive figures for all three variants: 720 km (447 mi) for the Xiaomi SU7 Standard, while the BEV model Xiaomi SU7 Pro is said to be the range king at 902 km (560 mi). The performance model, the Xiaomi SU7 Max, is said to have an electric range of 835 km (519 mi).
LiDAR and supercomputers now standard
The range of driver assistance systems is a clear challenge to the competition. Xiaomi will install the expensive LiDAR laser sensor and a 4D millimeter wave radar in every SU7 in the future, even in the base model. Furthermore, all SU7 variants will be equipped with a massive 700 TOPS of computing power for AI-powered "highly automated driving" ("Xiaomi HAD").
More grip, new look and physical buttons
The SU7 series' drive system has also been upgraded. The new V6s Plus engine is now standard in the SU7. The entry-level version has an output of 235 kW (320 hp). To improve power transfer to the road, the rear tires on all models have been increased to a width of 265 millimeters. The SU7 Pro models now also feature the high-quality dual-chamber air suspension with variable dampers.
The interior of the SU7 for the 2026 model year features fresh colors such as "midnight black", a redesigned two-tone steering wheel and a revised central console. Xiaomi has also listened to customer feedback: Important functions in the SU7 can still be operated via physical buttons.
Nine airbags and a "roll cage"
Xiaomi has made massive improvements to the passive safety features of its SU7 electric car. The body structure has been reinforced with 2200MPa steel to form an "integrated roll cage". The SU7's drive battery is protected by special underbody protection with an extremely durable coating. Inside, the number of airbags has been increased to a total of nine with the addition of two new rear side airbags.
Xiaomi SU7 (2026): Prices and market launch
The upgrades come at a price. Pre-sales for the SU7 in China start at 229,900 yuan (approx. $32,970), which is an increase of around 14,000 yuan (approx. $2000). The Pro version of the SU7 is priced at 259,900 yuan (approx. $37,268), while the top-of-the-range SU7 Max is priced at 309,900 yuan (approx. $44,438). These are the prices communicated for China so far. Chinese Xiaomi customers who are still waiting for their "old" SU7 model were able to upgrade to the new version of the SU7 free of charge until January 10, 2026. The official market launch for the SU7 MY2026 is planned for April 2026.
