Reviews for the Xiaomi Pad Mini
The small 8.8-inch Xiaomi Pad Mini delivers performance and features you’d usually expect only from high-end smartphones. It offers up to 512 GB of storage and, with its Dimensity 9400+ chip, can even outperform the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in some cases. The tablet also features a stunning 3K display with a 165 Hz refresh rate and delivers excellent battery life despite its compact size.

While it’s not meant for creatives, the Pad Mini’s raw power makes it a great compact tablet option for gamers and those who like to consume media on a screen that’s bigger than a phone but smaller than a normal tablet. That makes the Pad Mini the closest Android compact tablet alternative to the iPad Mini.

The Xiaomi Pad Mini was announced in September 2025 and is designed to be a powerful yet highly portable companion. The tablet features an 8.8-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1880 × 3008 pixels, offering a crisp 403 ppi density. With support for HDR10 and Dolby Vision, along with a bright 700-nit output, it delivers a truly immersive viewing experience for movies and games. Weighing just 326 grams and measuring only 6.5mm thick, it’s light and comfortable to hold for long periods. Aside from this, it includes a convenient magnetic stylus support for notes and creative work. Under the hood, it’s powered by the 3nm MediaTek Dimensity 9400+ chipset, which houses an octa-core CPU along with an Immortalis-G925 GPU.

The Xiaomi Pad Mini proves that a compact tablet can deliver far more than just the basics. Altogether, it blends speed, multitasking power, a dazzling display, and thoughtful extras like stylus support and Hyper AI. In my experience, I was able to do everything from work, including writing, note-taking, and editing videos, to play, such as watching movies and playing games. While it may not be designed specifically for hardcore gaming or cinematic entertainment, it truly shines at everything you do most. The Xiaomi Pad Mini is flexible, reliable, and always enjoyable, ready to support your creativity, productivity, and relaxation wherever your day takes you. For those in Asia, the Pad Mini’s mix of premium features and accessible price makes it a standout in the small tablet market.

Compact tablets fell out of fashion for a reason, and I think most people will still be better off with a bigger device that can serve as a powerful and portable laptop replacement. If that’s more appealing to you, the best value option right now is the Honor Pad 10, where you’ll get the 12.1in tablet, a keyboard case and a stylus for just £300. With that being said, however, I really like the Xiaomi Pad Mini. The compact and robust build makes it well-suited to being slung in your bag for a bit of streaming on the train to work, or even tucked neatly into your carry-on for a flight. Once you download a competent sketching app, the stylus is precise and responsive enough to facilitate digital art, too. Which makes it all the more frustrating that it isn’t coming to the UK.

Xiaomi Pad Mini is a small tablet with an 8.8-inch LCD screen powered by the MediaTek Dimensith 9400 Plus. It’s ideal for one hand use but I have also been using it paired with a Bluetooth keyboard as a productivity machine.
