The POCO X5 has reared its head again, a month on from its appearance on IMEI databases. As we discussed at the time, the POCO X5 surfaced under the model numbers '220101320C', '220101320G' and '220101320I', which represent its Chinese, global and Indian variants, respectively. The POCO X5 5G has now turned up on BIS and FCC databases too, with the latter's listing revealing several details about the upcoming smartphone.
Surprisingly, the FCC has published a drawing of the device's back panel, albeit a fairly nondescript one. Additionally, the regulatory body highlights that the POCO X5 5G, certified as 220101320G, has a 4,900 mAh battery and a 5G modem. In other words, the handset should launch with a 5,000 mAh capacity, 160 mAh less than the POCO X4 NFC, plus a mid-range chipset. The FCC reports that Xiaomi also submitted the POCO X5 5G with MIUI 14, an OS update that the company has yet to release publicly.
Based on earlier rumours, the large battery will power a large IPS display that outputs at 120 Hz and a probable 1080p resolution. Moreover, Xiaomi is rumoured to have based the POCO X5 5G on the Snapdragon 778G+, an SoC also found in the Nothing Phone (1). A release date remains unknown at this stage, although we imagine that Xiaomi will schedule dedicated launch events for China, India and the rest of the world.
