Xiaomi has shared early camera samples from the upcoming Xiaomi 18 Fold, highlighting strong detail, controlled highlights and natural tones from its Leica-developed triple-camera system. However, independent third-party testing will still be needed after the foldable’s September 7 launch.

Xiaomi has released camera samples taken with its upcoming Xiaomi 18 Fold, offering an early look at the foldable’s Leica-developed imaging system ahead of its September 7 launch. The phone features a 200 MP main camera with a 1/1.56-inch sensor, flanked by a 50MP 3.5x periscope telephoto and a 50MP ultrawide camera. Leica's Summilux lens will be used across all three rear cameras.

The samples suggest Xiaomi has opted for a relatively restrained approach to image processing as opposed to aggressive brightening. Warmer tones appear accurate while darker areas still show plenty of detail without obvious noise or artifacts. Bright areas are also controlled reasonably well, while another sample deliberately leaves much of the frame darker rather than aggressively lifting shadows. A 2x crop from the main sensor (above, top left) maintains considerable detail, while a 100mm portrait sample (above, bottom left) shows detailed rendering and seemingly accurate skin tones.

However, the images should not be treated as a reflection of real-world camera performance. The images were handpicked by Xiaomi ahead of launch, so they likely showcase the smartphone under near-ideal conditions rather than typical use. Hence, only independent testing can establish how consistently the Xiaomi 18 Fold performs across different lighting conditions and shooting scenarios.
