WordPress.com users can talk to their AI to create websites

WordPress.com, a popular website host, has added the ability to create and edit content through autonomous AI agents. These agents can also summarize changes, provide updates, and do a variety of tasks on behalf of business and personal website owners. Users can type or speak to command their AI bots, rather than do the manual work themselves.
WordPress.com uses the open-source web content management system provided by WordPress.org. Anyone can install the WordPress software on their own servers to host websites, or purchase hosting services from WordPress.com or other companies providing this service. The AI agent capability is currently only available for websites hosted on WordPress.com.
Although WordPress is easier to use than HTML/CSS/JavaScript for website creation, (which users can learn about in books like this one on Amazon), learning to use it effectively requires hours of study. Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open-source framework that allows AI chatbots to access and manipulate external systems, and WordPress.com has added MCP access to its website accounts.
Once users enable MCP access and connect their favorite AI chatbot, including Claude, Cursor, and ChatGPT, they can type or speak to their bots to control, update, and monitor their websites rather than manually doing so. For example, telling a bot to "create a beautiful website for a spa" replaces the manual creation and design process that used to take dozens of minutes, if not hours. (Readers can quickly learn how to prompt chatbots with a quick-start guide like this one on Amazon.)
Users have full control over all proposed changes, which are logged and reversible. Individual capabilties can also be disabled for select user accounts.
