Microsoft is updating 365 Copilot with student-focused features ahead of the new semester. The update includes tools aimed at helping students both inside and outside the classroom.

Microsoft is rolling out a student-friendly upgrade to 365 Copilot just in time for the new semester. The update brings tools aimed at making both coursework and campus life a little easier, the company announced in a recent blog post.

The update lets students lean on Copilot for quick subject refreshers, like summarizing books or generating practice quizzes. Microsoft highlighted Hamlet as an example: Copilot can break down the play’s major themes and spin up a 10-question quiz to test comprehension. The same approach works for math and other subjects where students may need a brush-up.

Outside the classroom, Copilot is doubling as a lifestyle assistant. It can recommend dorm or locker decorations based on a student’s interests and budget, suggest microwave-friendly meals, and even map out nearby grocery stores. Microsoft also pitched Copilot as a budgeting helper.

Students can enter income, subscriptions, and travel plans, and Copilot will generate a plan that balances spending with savings. The update also includes recommendations for task management apps, showing how Copilot is growing into more of a digital helper.

It also highlights Microsoft’s bigger plan: turning Copilot from just a work tool into an all-purpose assistant for students and young people who want AI support for both studying and daily life.

The new features are currently available to Microsoft 365 Insider testers across Windows, Mac, web, iOS, and Android. General availability will follow after the preview period.
