Where to buy a PS5 was a more popular search term for Google users in 2020 than where to buy toilet paper
Google has published the searches that have trended throughout 2020 and the PlayStation 5 tops the list for the “where to buy…” request. The new console from Sony managed to be more popular than such COVID-19-related products as toilet paper (second), face masks (third), and hand sanitizer (fifth). Where to buy the Xbox Series X was also frequently inputted in Google search bars, coming in strong in fourth position while Nintendo Switch hunters pushed “where to buy Nintendo Switch” to seventh.
Unsurprisingly, both “where to buy PS5” and “where to buy toilet paper” peaked at different times of the year in the US. While the latter was of vital importance in March and April of 2020, the former has dominated “where to buy” searches in November and December. It seems gamers in Nevada and Wyoming have been looking for the PS5 the most, with Best Buy and GameStop heading the preferred retailers in the search terms.
Unfortunately for those typing “where to buy PS5” right now, the console appears to be out of stock everywhere, from the US to the UK and beyond, with some retailers suggesting that stock will not be replenished until 2021. Even PlayStation Direct got hammered hard by eager shoppers when it finally offered up some PS5 units to the demanding public. PS5 restock in some places may still happen over the next few days, so if you are hunting one of the consoles, be ready to act fast.
