Voigtländer unveils extremely fast 50 mm f/1.0 full-frame lens for Sony A7, A9 and the like
After the 50 mm f/1.0 lens for the Canon RF, Cosina is now introducing an almost identical lens for the Sony E. Despite the extremely large aperture of f/1.0, the lens is relatively compact: the metal body measures 79 millimetres in diameter, 69 millimetres in length and weighs 590 grams.
By comparison, the Sony Planar T FE 50 mm f/1.4 Zeiss measures 108 x 83.5 millimeters with a weight of 778 grams despite a significantly smaller aperture. The compact format is made possible, among other things, by the fact that Cosina has dispensed with autofocus and instead installed a particularly easy-grip focus ring for manual focus. The lens has nine lenses in seven groups, including two with an aspherical surface.
A floating lens group is intended to improve image quality at short distances to the subject, specifically a minimum focus distance of 45 centimetres at an image magnification of 1:6.9. The aperture consists of twelve blades, which should ensure particularly uniform bokeh effects. The aperture ring can be adjusted seamlessly in order to avoid clicking noises when recording videos. The lens is compatible with 67 millimeter filters and a screw-on metal lens hood is included.
