Vivo X500 Pro series launches with new flagship SoC, tweaked Zeiss camera setup, and up to 8,000mAh battery

Vivo has introduced the first phone lineup that's powered by the newly introduced Dimensity 9600 Pro, MediaTek's next-gen flagship SoC. The X500 Pro series has two phones, to be specific, and both have nearly identical specs. There aren't many significant changes over the X300 Pro either.

Among the two, the Vivo X500 Pro is the compact one, coming in with a 6.36-inch display, making it smaller than its predecessor, X300 Pro, which sports a 6.78-inch screen. It's a BOE Q11 panel with a resolution of 2,660x1216 pixels, a peak brightness rating of 2,000 nits, and a 144Hz adaptive refresh rate.

The Vivo X500 Pro Max, on the other hand, has a larger 6.85-inch display with 3,168x1,440 pixels resolution. Both have support for HDR10 Plus and Dolby Vision, and the company notes that there's hardware-level 1-nit brightness support.

With a larger form factor, the X500 Pro Max brings an 8,000mAh battery, while the non-Max version has the same 6,510mAh rated capacity as the X300 Pro. Both support 90W fast charging in wired mode and 40W wireless charging (Ugreen Nexode 100W 4-port charger curr. $42.99 on Amazon).

Vivo X500 Pro Max and X500 Pro bring a tweaked Zeiss camera setup

There's a notable change in the camera setup of the Vivo X500 Pro series phones, specifically in terms of the primary sensor. Both come with a new primary 50MP sensor with a 24mm-equivalent focal length and 17EV dynamic range. In the samples showcased at the event, it can capture detail-rich, color-accurate pictures with a properly exposed subject and background.

On the X500 Pro, this 50MP primary sensor is paired with a 64MP telephoto with an 85mm equivalent focal length, while the Pro Max has a 200MP telephoto sensor. There's the same 50MP ultrawide on both phones, and the front of the two has a 50MP JN1 selfie shooter.

At the event, Vivo highlighted support for 4K 240FPS slow-motion captures with support for the new Vivo LOG format. The two phones are also touted to have CIPA 7.0 stabilization.

Price and availability

The Vivo X500 Pro starts at CNY 6,499, around $970, and is available with up to 12GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. As for the Pro Max, it starts at CNY 6,999, about $1,045, and is available with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X memory and 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage. There Both come in four colorways, and they are expected to be released outside China soon.
