Computex 2023 | Upcoming MSI Prestige 16 laptop shown running Intel Meteor Lake Core Ultra CPU with 22 threads
Intel is trying its best to keep the suspense going with respect to the upcoming 14th gen Meteor Lake parts. Apart from benchmark leaks and an official announcement regarding the visual processing unit (VPU) that offloads AI tasks, not much is known about various Meteor Lake SKUs themselves.
We had a chance to stop by MSI's booth at Computex 2023 where in the company showed off some of its latest offerings including the MSI Stealth 16 Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Edition, Raider GE78 Smart Touchpad Edition, Alpha 17, Commercial 14, and more. However, what caught our attention was the new Prestige 16 Evo / Prestige 16 Studio.
Upon checking the Device Manager for the CPU name, we were greeted with the name "Genuine Intel(R) 0000" hinting that the Prestige 16 Evo could actually be a Meteor Lake-powered laptop.
The Device Manager shows 22 logical CPUs, or 22 threads, which is another strong indication that this is very well a Meteor Lake CPU. For perspective, Raptor Lake P/U and H-series top out at 20 threads max.
MSI also forgot to redact references to "i7" and "13th gen" corrections in the initial version of the press release. This is in line with the fact that Intel will be using a new nomenclature for 14th gen Meteor Lake parts, such as the Core Ultra 7 1003H that was spotted in a PugetBench leak.

MSI told us that the Prestige 16 Evo is scheduled for a Q4 2023 launch. This aligns with the likely launch date for Meteor Lake processors. A Raptor Lake variant of the Prestige 16 Studio was announced during CES 2023.
Coming to the laptop itself, the new Prestige 16 Evo weighs about 1.5 kg and supports USB Type-C Power Delivery 3.1 up to 140 W. Optional Nvidia RTX 4000 graphics are also available in select SKUs.
MSI seems to have redesigned the new Prestige 16's chassis. The laptop now offers ports on the rear, including HDMI, 2x USB Type-C, and a USB Type-A, which means that the lid cannot be rotated to lay flat at 180°.
The fingerprint sensor is now integrated on the power button instead of the touchpad. A full-size SD card reader and Ethernet are now available towards the right of the chassis.
