MSI Raider GE78 HX Smart Touchpad gaming laptop now available with a Core i9-13980HX and GeForce RTX 4070
Our MSI Raider GE78 HX review praised it for its stellar generation-over-generation performance and effortless user upgradability. Its numpad, however, was quite cramped, especially for a laptop with a 17-inch screen. MSI aims to remedy that with the MSI Raider GE78 HX Smart Touchpad edition.
There is now an entire touchpad next to the trackpad. One can toggle it on and off via a dedicated switch. Alternatively, there is a "smart mode" that automatically switches off the touchpad when not in use and instantly switches it back on once a user's hand is detected. In addition, the MSI Raider GE78 HX Smart Touchpad gives users quick access to functions such as recording the screen, opening the camera, toggling Bluetooth on and off, and on-the-fly profile switching.
The MSI Raider GE78 HX Smart Touchpad's function slider also allows for adjustment of screen brightness, volume and microphone output. Additionally, MSI has also included five programmable keys on the touchpad. The included software lets users assign functions, similar to how one would program mouse buttons. Lastly, one can also use the touchpad's extra real estate as a trackpad. Refer to the attached video to find out more about how the touchpad functions.
For now, the MSI Raider GE78 HX Smart Touchpad is only available in one configuration with an Intel Core i9-13980HX, Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070, a 4K 240 Hz screen, 32 GB DDR5, and 2 TB SSD. It will hit shelves in Germany in June for €3,599 (US$3,857). Given MSI has already started putting out teasers on its Twitter, a global launch shouldn't be too far off.
