Umidigi to detail Umi Z and Umidigi Z Pro smartphones next week
Chinese manufacturer Umi will now be known as Umidigi moving forward with the name change emphasizing a wider reach of electronics. For example, the company will be focusing more on products related to smart homes and robotics in addition to the usual smartphones that the company is more well known for.
The previously announced Umi Z smartphone will be the last smartphone launch to carry the "Umi" name as all future releases will instead have the newer "Umidigi" logo. The Umi Z will launch on January 4th and can already be pre-ordered online for $280 USD with the first 10,000 buyers receiving a $60 USD discount.
The next smartphone following the Umi Z will be the Umidigi Z Pro and it is expected to be the first smartphone to carry the new Umidigi name. While the Umi Z will be equipped with a 4K-capable 13 MP rear Samsung camera, the Umidigi Z Pro will have dual rear cameras for potentially better snapshots. The exact specifications of these cameras, however, are currently unknown. Nonetheless, both smartphones should be shipping with the brand new MediaTek Helio X27 SoC with 4 GB RAM and 32 GB eMMC each. Android 6 will be pre-installed with future updates to Android 7 expected.
Other core specifications for the smartphones are their 5.5-inch IGZO FHD displays from Sharp, a front-facing 13 MP camera, fingerprint sensor, 8.2 mm thick housing, 3780 mAh battery, USB Type-C, 3.5 mm headphone jack, and Gray and Gold color options. Expect a full specification list for both devices come CES 2017.
