UDOO BOLT GEAR is an affordable mini PC powered by AMD's Ryzen Embedded APUs, offers Arduino support
AMD-powered mini PCs are still not that easy to find, even though team red introduced its anti-NUC program back in late 2019. Apparently, releasing mini PCs with decent AMD APUs is a tricky business, especially when Intel is offering its OEM partners better incentives for NUC-like mini PCs, but there are some smaller companies that do not really care about these policies. Take for example SECO, which was among the first to release mini PCs powered by AMD’s Ryzen Embedded solution. SECO just launched a new model called UDOO BOLT GEAR that also comes with a programmable Arduino board for the DIY crowd.
The new UDOO BOLT GEAR comes with a barebones case that includes the motherboard and the Ryzen Embedded V1605B 4-core / 8-thread CPU with Radeon Vega 8 iGPU, plus the ATmega32U4 Arduino Leonardo microprocessor with Arduino-compatible pins. The motherboard has for video outputs, making this mini PC ideal for industrial or commercial applications that require rapid prototyping, as well as for entertainment and DIY projects like arcade-style video game systems.
Users are required to supply the RAM and storage components, then install Windows or Linux-based OSs. The UDOO BOLT GEAR motherboard supports up to 32 GB of DDR4-2400 dual-channel RAM via two SODIMM slots, and users can add an M.2 2280 PCIe NVMe SSD along with an M.2 2260 SATA SSD for storage. An additional M.2 2230 slot is already populated with a WiFi / Bluetooth module.
Port selection for this model includes 2x USB-A 3.0, 2x USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 with DisplayPort support, 2x HDMI 2.0 video outputs, combo audio jacks and a Realtek Rtl8111g GbE connector.
