Tropico 7 gets a release date — El Presidente returns in January 2027

Kalypso Media and Gaming Minds Studios have announced the release date for Tropico 7 — the political city-building strategy will launch on January 28, 2027. The release date was revealed in a new gameplay trailer released for Gamescom, which also showcases several of the game's new features.

The new footage offers a closer look at new terraforming tools, which will give players the ability to reshape the landscape, including removing mountains, creating beaches and even building entirely new islands. City planning has also been expanded with more flexible road layouts, including curved roads and roundabouts. The developers are also expanding the scale of the game, with the new installment featuring the largest islands in the series.

Politics will play an even bigger role in Tropico 7. The game introduces a new political matrix, while available edicts will depend on El Presidente's political position. Factions can also be summoned to council meetings, giving players new ways to negotiate with or manipulate different political groups. Elections and campaign speeches will return as well.

The military system has been reworked as well, giving players more direct control over their units when dealing with rebels and foreign threats. Players will also be able to customize El Presidente and his palace, while strategically placing buildings can create new synergy effects and improve the efficiency of their cities.

Tropico 7 will feature five campaign maps, following the continuing story of El Presidente and his right-hand man Penultimo, while introducing a new rival, Victoria Guerra. The game will also include 10 additional scenarios, more than 20 sandbox maps and a random map generator.

Tropico 7 will be released for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. On PC, the game will be available through Steam, Epic Games Store and Microsoft Store, while Xbox players will also be able to play it through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. PC Game Pass will be available on PC from launch day as well.

The game will launch without multiplayer, but the developers have previously confirmed that multiplayer is planned as a free post-launch update.
