With a price tag of just $750, the Toshiba Satellite S875D-S7239 is very affordable and an attractive option for those that need some 3D graphics. The AMD A10 APU offers a nice Radeon HD graphics solution that makes it capable of casual PC gaming or accelerating non-3D applications. The inclusion of a Blu-ray drive is also a nice feature not typically found in this price range.

The Toshiba Satellite S875-S7242 isn't the slimmest or most portable laptop available on the market, but it packs solid hardware into an affordable package while pumping out admirable benchmark scores that hold their own against more expensive systems. For the user who's looking for a budget-friendly desktop replacement that won't stray too far from the desk (or, more appropriately, the power outlet), it's an overall solid choice. Otherwise, users with a bit more cash to spare, though, should opt for the Editors' Choice HP Envy 17 (2012), whose better battery life and more potent feature set, like a true 1080p display and Blu-ray player, justify the extra $150.

The Toshiba's software bundle is unremarkable, unless you count a scandalously short 30-day trial of Norton Internet Security as remarkable: Windows 7 Home Premium, Google Chrome, Microsoft Office Starter 2010 (the ads-included, some-features-excluded versions of Word and Excel), and a slew of house-brand utilities for system maintenance. A one-year parts-and-labor warranty protects your investment.

The Toshiba Satellite S875 is a classic 17-inch notebook which is sure to make a decent family PC. Unfortunately, a "traditional" laptop may struggle to make the most of the new Windows 8 operating system. We won't go quite as far as to declare that every Windows 8 PC needs to have a touchscreen -- there is more than one way to skin an OS -- but we will say that this notebook fails to deliver the best Windows 8 experience.

Toshiba's updated mid-range 17-inch laptop does a good job at balancing its various features to provide a solid overall experience. It is one of the few systems to actually include a Blu-ray compatible drive in its price range although it does lack the full 1080p capable display. Surprisingly, the system is also a good deal lighter than must of the competition.

Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.
AMD Radeon HD 7660G: Processor graphics card that is built into the Trinity A10 series APUs from AMD. Based on the VLIW4 architecture of the Radeon HD 6900 desktop series.
Intel HD Graphics 4000: Processor graphics card in the high end Ivy Bridge models. Offers a different clock speed in the different CPU models (ULV to desktop quad core) and therefore a different performance.

AMD A-Series:
A10-4600M: Mobile Quad-Core processor with only two FP calculation units and an integrated Radeon HD 7660G graphics card.
Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
