If that sounds like somewhat lukewarm praise, so be it—as we said, we've been spoiled by deluxe ultrabooks like Acer's Aspire S7-392, and we can't quite forget the Satellite's appalling audio. Indeed, with roughly three years of ultrabooks behind us, we're starting to feel that Intel might be wise to come up with a new label for mass-market lightweights below $700 or $750.

The ultraportable market has swelled greatly in the last year, with ultrabooks and similarly thin laptops becoming the style-du-jour for laptop manufacturers across the board. The Toshiba Satellite E45t-A4300 entry-level ultrabook provides all-day battery life, solid performance, and a luxurious design for an agreeable price.

For an entry-level system, the Toshiba Satellite E45t-A4300 delivers a high-quality user experience, combining luxurious design, solid performance, and all-day battery life that put it alongside our Editors' Choice Lenovo IdeaPad U430 Touch as one of the better ultrabooks available in this price range.

For $699, the Toshiba Satellite E45t Ultrabook is a capable and attractive Windows 8 thin-and-light notebook. It offers brisk performance, long battery life and a responsive touch screen. Our biggest qualm is this notebook's lackluster display. For $20 less, we prefer the Lenovo IdeaPad U430 Touch. That system offers a higher-resolution display, longer battery life and an even better keyboard.

Toshiba Satellite E45W-C4200X
The Toshiba Satellite E45W-C4200X is an affordable and conveniently sized laptop for on-the-go users. The professionally looking device comes in dark silver with a brushed metal finish. The black polycarbonate lid adds durability without sacrificing on additional weight. A pro of the Toshiba Satellite E45W-C4200X is its capability to transform into various viewing modes ranging from a traditional laptop to audience mode. In the latter, the screen faces outwards and the keyboard folded underneath. Display on the laptop is a 14 inch widescreen TruBrite TFT LCD panel with 10-point multi touch support. Audio quality is impressive with the built-in Harmon Kardon stereo speakers. The Windows 10 device comes with an Intel Core i3-5015U processor, 6 GB of DDR3L 1600MHz RAM, an Intel HD Graphics GPU and a 500 GB HDD. The typing ergonomics of the frameless Chiclet is great. Other features are Bluetooth 4.1, an HD webcam, a card reader, an Intel Dual-Band Wireless-AC adapter, an HDMI out, two USB 3.0 ports and a USB 2.0 port. The Toshiba Satellite E45W-C4200X comes with various software suits including several trial software that could overwhelm some users. Battery life on the laptop is not too impressive with a 3-cell Lithium-Ion battery.Specifications

The Toshiba Satellite Radius 14 E45W-C4200X is a good starter system if you're looking to explore the convertible-hybrid laptop category. It has a large screen and a modest price that's in the same ballpark as entry-level desktop-replacement laptops, even if it has a slight premium for its convertible design. However, its large amount of bloatware and bulkier build means it can't quite compete with our Editors' Choice for entry-level convertible-hybrid laptops, the Dell Inspiron 11 3000 Series 2-in-1 (3147), on battery life, system weight, and price (it's $135 less expensive).

Toshiba priced this system low enough that some price conscious buyers will want to take a look. People who want a little more than a budget laptop, but doesn’t cost too much more, will enjoy this computer. So we’ll call it a “buy,” with reservations. If Toshiba boosted the screen brightness and put a longer lasting battery in it, we’d like it more. Those who need to use the trackpad will find the included pointing device frustrating, so get a Bluetooth mouse to use instead.

14.00:
14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.
In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.

75%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
