Toshiba Satellite C50-AI0110t
The rise of Windows 8 has caused a flourishing crop of touchscreen laptops to spring up. In the case of the Toshiba Satellite C50-AI0110t the 15 inch responsive touchscreen is one of the delightful features. It looks great, with a decently built polymer body that looks like aluminum, but surface collects fingerprints too well. The hinges are nice and sturdy, and will not flop around during touchscreen input. The Toshiba Satellite C50-AI0110t is not the most portable device out there, weighing in at 2.38 kg. The screen resolution of 1366x768 may be disappointing to some, but at this price point, it is decent enough. The full keyboard is comfortable to use, as is the responsive touchpad.
Powered by an Intel Core i3-2348M with 2.3 GHz, 4GB of RAM, and Intel's integrated HD Graphics 3000 GPU, the Toshiba Satellite C50-AI0110t can handle most light everyday tasks and casual gaming, but it is easily possible to slow the machine down with too many browser tabs and programs running. Considering the low performance, it is surprising that the battery does not last long. Expect approximately 5 hours of normal moderate to light use. At the end of the day, the Toshiba Satellite C50-AI0110t is a heavy, underpowered, yet cheap machine. The main selling point would be the touchscreen, but at this price range it would make more sense to go for a more powerful machine without touchscreen.

The Toshiba C50-A Toshiba Satellite C50-A I0110t exhibits decent performance in office applications and multimedia operations, but it falters a bit at multitasking. Its display quality is nothing to write home about, but it is nevertheless as responsive as you would expect of a Windows 8 capacitive multi-touch screen. The large 15.6"screen size makes it ideal as a desktop replacement, rather than an Ultrabook that can be carried around, as it is too heavy and bulky for that. The battery backup time ought to have been better with such a high-capacity 6-cell battery especially since there is no discrete graphics. Probably its only saving grace is its affordable price tag of Rs 40,656, which at this price you usually get a non-touchscreen laptop with similar or better configuration.

While many of the companies are moving their budget systems to less powerful but more energy efficient platforms, Toshiba has elected to keep with traditional laptop features in the Satellite C55-A5246. This means the system is larger but it offers higher performance and an optical drive that many are removing.

Enduring and quiet. The Satellite C50-A-1JU is a basic office laptop based on a Bay Trail Pentium. The laptop for around 400 Euros (~$545) promises long battery runtimes, and good emission rates owing to the energy-efficient quad-core processor. Our test report reveals whether this is achieved in practical use.

The C55D is clearly an entry-level laptop that offers basic levels of performance and image quality. Battery life was surprisingly good, and the ability to store plenty of music and video on its terabyte hard disk means that it could work as a low-cost entertainment system around the home or in the garden when the summer arrives.

Toshiba's latest low cost Satellite laptop features a number of trade offs. It offers a quite experience with longer battery life but trades off a good deal of performance by using the new AMD A4 quad core processor. The design is also unchanged from previous models which means it is larger and heavier than most other systems at this price point.

It's not going to turn any heads, but the C50-B-IIL provides a perfectly usable laptop at a very competitive price. Its performance, screen quality and battery life match those of other budget laptops we've seen costing £400 - £500, making the C50 a good option for anyone that needs a reliable laptop for less than £400.

Toshiba Satellite C55D-B5242

Toshiba's Satellite C55D-B5242 continues the trend of the company offering greater storage space than its competitors but this feature may not be enough to make it a better system. They have also tossed in more memory but the general performance is less than most systems at this price point. It is made up a bit with improved graphics but there are just too many alternatives that seem to offer a bit more.

The Toshiba C55-C isn't flashy or glamorous, but it gets the job done—and does it better than any of the competition. If you're looking for a fast laptop in the sub-$500 range and don't give a damn how it looks, this is your ticket. The C55-C is a straight-up bargain considering some of these benchmark scores, and it would fare even better if you have the technical know-how to swap in an SSD.

We’re satisfied with the results of Satellite C55’s, having in mind that we’re looking at a budget-friendly, thin and light notebook. It’s no surprise that this laptop is among the best-sellers on Amazon – it could be used as an everyday machine for everyone that needs a notebook for office work, watching movies, surfing the Web, listening to music or light gaming (on low settings). If you travel a lot, you’ll be pleased with the battery life – almost six hours. The only thing we didn’t like about the design is that most of the ports are located on the right side. However, we’ve got a comfortable keyboard and touchpad, thin display bezel and nice looks (especially the white version).

14.00:
14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.
In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.
» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.

67.45%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
