Redemption Road has indefinitely delayed Kingmakers’ planned October 8 early access launch, saying the ambitious time-travel shooter/strategy hybrid requires more work to avoid cutting promised features.

Redemption Road’s hybrid time-travelling shooter and strategy game, Kingmakers, which mixes up modern weapons like assault rifles with medieval sword fights, has unfortunately been indefinitely delayed before its previously planned early access launch of October 8.

The developer announced in a statement on Steam and X, explaining that Kingmakers needs more time for refinement before they felt comfortable charging money for the game, “After much contemplation, we realise that the scheduled Kingmakers launch on October 8 will no longer be possible. We want to apologise to all of the fans who are eagerly anticipating this game. We are sorry for letting you down.”

The exact reason for the delay seems to be the game’s ambitious scope and Redemption Road’s unwavering commitment to not compromise on features. The studio stated, “Why is Kingmakers being delayed? In short, it’s an incredibly ambitious, uncompromising game, and we don’t want to cut any planned features for the sake of getting it out the door. Our goal, from the start, has been to create something that’s nothing like anything else on the market, in terms of gameplay, scale, scope, and interactivity.

Despite the delay, the studio promised a half-hour-long deep dive into gameplay soon, offering a comprehensive showcase of their work so far.

Performance on lower and mid-tier hardware is a necessity for Redemption Road’s achievements, as the studio announced proudly that it pushed Unreal Engine 4’s codebase to the absolute limit to get true 60fps performance without relying on “fake frames.”

With an engineering team that comprises 80% of its staff, Redemption Road is dedicated to pushing technical limitations. Redemption Road’s Kingmakers is poised to feature tens of thousands of soldiers equipped with AI and pathfinding rivaling that of AAA games.

According to Redemption Road, players will be able to enter every room in every six-story castle, with every floor, ceiling, and wall entirely destructible. The game will feature full drop-in/drop-out multiplayer and incorporate anachronistic elements such as cars, tanks, and the ability to build structures.

The initial trailer for Kingmakers was released last year and became a viral sensation overnight. Reactions to the delay have been surprising for the most part, with many gamers commenting on the humorous irony of a time-traveling game missing its deadline.
