The new PS Plus perks come with a catch that could affect most subscribers

On its official PlayStation Plus perks page, Sony lists several additional offers available to subscribers across all three membership tiers in Germany, France and the UK. The company also announced the new benefits on X (embedded below). These include three months of YouTube Premium, two months of Calm Premium and movie credits for Sony Pictures Core. Audible is also available for €0.99 per month for the first three months. On top of that, subscribers can take advantage of hardware discounts, including deals on selected DualSense controllers and other Sony products.
The catch is in the fine print
Perhaps the most attractive perk for many subscribers – three months of YouTube Premium – comes with significant restrictions. The trial offer is only available to new customers who haven't previously subscribed to YouTube or taken advantage of a trial offer. Anyone who already has Premium or has tried the service in the past therefore won't be eligible. A payment method is also required, and unless the subscription is canceled in time, the trial automatically converts into a paid membership.
Hardware discounts are certainly nice to have, but for most subscribers, they're probably only useful if they were already planning to make a purchase. Even then, other retailers frequently offer attractive discounts of their own.Whether gamers are particularly interested in meditating with Calm Premium between gaming sessions on their PS5 is also debatable. Of course, the new perks aren't entirely useless. Some subscribers will undoubtedly be eligible for the YouTube Premium offer, and the other services are likely to find interested users as well. Nevertheless, the community's overall reaction has been largely critical.
On Reddit, many users see the new PS Plus perks as little more than advertising for paid services rather than genuine added value for subscribers. Many would prefer Sony to lower its subscription prices instead. However, some fear the opposite: that Sony could eventually point to these additional benefits as justification for another price increase.
