The title, the 3rd in its series, follows the critically acclaimed second installment of the game, which was also awarded Game of the Year in 2014.

Developed by Interplay Studios and published by EA in 1988, Wasteland is a turn-based CRPG set in a futuristic America that was destroyed generations ago by a nuclear catastrophe generations before. Decades later, Wasteland 2 was released in 2014, developed by inXile Entertainment, a studio founded by Brian Fargo, the original game’s director. The game was crowdfunded through Kickstarter, where it raised almost $3 million out of a $900,000 target, won PCWorld's Game of the Year, reached the number 1 spot on Steam's sales charts, and was viewed by fans and critics as a critical success.

Wasteland 3, the last entry in the series, was released in 2020 and developed by inXile Entertainment. Set in the same post-apocalyptic future of America, the third installment is focused in Colardo. The players take control of the two surviving members of the Arizona Rangers, whose squad was ambushed on a mission. They must now work with the area's inhabitants to return to base, which requires assistance from the local regional warlord.

The game, like others in the series, was very well received by fans of the series, the genre, and the turn-based game style. It was especially praised for its unique focus on narrative and player choices. Though the most obvious comparisons for the game were its predecessor, many have compared it to Fallout and XCOM, focusing on its story, turn-based combat, and depth of player choice, and some players felt, comparatively to the abovementioned games, that Wasteland 3 fell short on some aspects, while it completely exceeded others.

Another commonly praised aspect of the game was its amazing soundtrack, produced by Mary Ramos, Quentin Tarantino’s music supervisor. The OST includes ‘post-apocalyptic’ versions of well-known music. These versions were inspired by the idea that people in this future America would no longer know what the songs were actually about as they encountered them.

Wasteland 3 has a Very Positive rating with over 18,000 positive reviews on Steam, and it can be purchased at a 70% discount for $11.99. The studio is also offering a 69% discount on the Wasteland Series Bundle, bringing the price to $29.68. The bundle includes the entire series, including the Wasteland 1 remaster, and 3 pieces of DLC for Wasteland 3.

For those looking to collect, the Day One edition of Wasteland 3 on Xbox is also available on sale at Amazon.
